component based instructional methodology

Our Component-Based Instructional Methodology allows us to teach concepts and skills in small pieces which players can utilize with us, and with their regular season programs.  The Compounded Interest in terms of system and skill understanding is rather unique to our approach.  The more time you train, the more familiar you become with your skills, movement and communication, and your subsequent ability to use them consistently.  It is how we've pieced our Texas United teams together since their inception.

Our method has proven to work over a duration of time lasting 10 years, and with players from across the State.  Moreover, the skills and style we teach stems from a desire to create a readiness for the Next Level of Competition.  Whether taking the step from 7/8 to JV, HS, MCLA, or NCAA, we help PREP lacrosse players to compete at their highest potential.

When you train with StickStar it's just different, but the one consistent is development. You will improve, and you will be more skilled. It's not the same set of drills and application, it's unique and tailored to developing players at any range of skill level. We will help you get better. Our Component Based Instructional Methodology helps make any player the best possible version of themselves from a skill and understanding standpoint, as long as the player remains consistent! Simply put, if you train with StickStar consistently the results are guaranteed. Your athleticism isn't, but you get the idea. What does consistently mean, well, it's a process. The more time you invest, the more you will improve. #StickStarHabits are real, and translatable. We look forward to developing your game.

the socratic method

the language of lacrosse -

While everyone enjoys using the “stock term” of Lacrosse IQ, we believe understanding the Language of Lacrosse is much more beneficial.  With StickStar we have a vocabulary that helps us build skill, movement, and adjustments.  Some of the conversations we have with our players during training or games are remarkable.  They can really convey what they are seeing and ask intelligent questions.  Utilizing the Socratic Method of question based learning and understanding, we reinforce our Vocabulary in an effort to build consistency.  Our players can communicate, which makes learning easier for everyone.

Seminars

On 3/27/2012 we held our first ever seminar in a gym in Houston, it was the beginning of a Statewide TRAINING MOVEMENT.  After our 1st Texas United Seminar we built momentum and held subsequent Spring Break Seminars, State Championship Seminars, Box Seminars and Affiliate Seminars.

Combines

While the Seminars grew in numbers, we figured it was time to bring College Coaches down to observe our environment, impart their wisdom, and recruit players.  The Seminars continued, and also led way to the StickStar Combines.  Held over the Winter / Summer breaks college coaches made their way down to evaluate the talent in a very intimate setting!

COVID

When COVID hit it forced all the cities to internalize their development and internalize their instruction.  The proliferation of SELECT TEAMS statewide has changed the training environment.  StickStar still believes in this specific training setting as our extended training environment allows for players to learn entire skill sets throughout the course of 7.5 Hours of training (in 1 weekend).  We will REINSTATE our Seminars in 3 Phases: 1) Over Spring Break 2) Through Program Consultation and finally 3) to Kick Off our Fall Season.  We will also look to bring back our Summer Combine as recruitment has become much more individualized!
